Voltage Reduction Device
When you're using MMA (Stick) mode, the VRD drops the open-circuit voltage to keep things safer.
So basically, when your machine's running but you're not actually welding—say you've just burned through an electrode and need to swap in a fresh one—the VRD automatically brings the voltage down to a much safer level (around 13V or so).
