The Furick TIG starter kit is the ideal first stop for TIG welders who want to start using glass or ceramic cups, it includes a range of lenses, collets and cups including the Jazzy 10, Fupa 12 in ceramic and glass as well as a 10 pack of O-rings. Why use a ceramic cup from Furick?

Ceramic cups can be used to replace standard collet heads and improve the spread of gas, when welding stainless steels, titanium or nickel-chromium. This improves the shield around the weld pool. These Furick cups allow for precision gas coverage around your weld. The mesh in the cup reduces any potential turbulence and weld contamination. All of this means tighter precision welds and an easier line of vision as the tungsten can stick out further. 

What types of ceramic cup do Furick offer?

We stock a wide range of shapes and sizes from Furick, these include the 'normal' collect body and range up to large gas lens collet bodies. These usually come in a 'porcine pink' colour but can also be white. 

What are the advantages of using ceramic cups?

Durability is a key factor- in comparison to glass cups the durability of ceramic cup is much higher- Ceramic cups have a better crack resistance. 

Cost of ceramic cups is much less than glass cups, the reliability of the gas flow and less turbulence means they are worth the investment. 

Why use a glass cup from Furick?

Glass cups do not necessarily guarantee better welds but they do give better visibility especially when ‘walking the cup’ when pipe welding. It is very much down to personal preference as some can argue that a larger diameter cup and extended electrode can do very similar. It can also act as a lightbulb to illuminate the weld area which is good for dark unlit welding. Personal preference also plays a large part in the choice of cup so this kit is ideal for those looking to try a range of cups both ceramic and glass. 

Please note: If you intend to use this kit with a CK torch then you will need the additional insulator part or you can slightly modify the insulator to snap over the CK brass lip- this can be done by sanding the inner lip of the insulator.

What else comes in this starter kit?

O-rings- a pack of 10 is included- these are used to provide a seal, these are an easy consumable to replace you just require the inner diameter and outer diameter of the O-ring. The set of 10 included in this kit will fit all of the cups in this kit. 

Install tool for Jazzy 10 and Fupa 12- This tool allows for the easy fitment of the diffuser on the Jazzy and Fupa 12 diffusers. 

Back cap assortment of small medium and large- these back caps come in a variety of sizes and depends on the size of the tungsten you're using. For shorter tungsten's you may use the shorter back cap and another benefit is that you are able to reach tighter places. The purpose of the back cap is to exert pressure in the collet and creates a seal to prevent air from entering the back of the torch. 

This set comes with a 1.6mm, 2.4mm and 3.2mm wedge collet, 1.6mm, 2.4 and a 3.2mm gas lens and the 1.6mm, 2.4mm and 3.2mm gas lens. 

Benefits of different collet options- 

Stubby-  These collets are shorter which can be used with the shorter stubby gas lens or the wide gas lenses which have the diffusers in. 

Normal- The standard collet is a longer collet which fits usual gas lenses. 

Wedge- These collets have an angled end with no slots on the sides- this increases the lifetime of the collet as they are less likely to become deformed or twisted if overtightened. These collets have a chamfer on the end which wedges the tungsten to one side to prevent any movement. These have a better electrical contact with less resistance and require less heat.
